Hi Everyone,
Lately we have been having some very hot and humid weather. As a retired nurse I feel compelled to write about my concern for you and others. The sun is such a wonderful thing and it brings most of us so much joy. But don't let the prettiness of the bright Sun fool you. It is very damaging to the skin and also to the heart. I ask that everyone be cautious in being out in the Sun make sure to wear Sun cream at all times if you are going to be out tanning or by the beach just enjoying the Sun.
I want everyone to make sure that each and everyone of you are taking in as much liquids as possible...water is the best..please try to stay away from pop...the acid in the pop doesn't help you.....water is the best liquid or gator aid. If you have a child who plays sports try to keep them as cool as possible sometimes just keeping a wet cloth near by and damping that child or adult will help to cool them off also allow them to sit in a shaded area.
As for our Seniors please make sure there intake of liquids are given every hour.. also if know air is in the home for them please keep all windows and blinds close ...this will help to keep the home cool. You may also take a wet cloth and damp that person as well...again helping to keep the body cool. Please pay attention to all children and adults when the heat is this high...pay attention to there breathing pattering if it looks like they are struggling to breath...don't wait call 911 child or adult may be struggling to breath due to heat exhausting.
Last but not least...DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CHILD OR ADULT IN YOUR CAR...for any reason...if they are in the vehicle with you then please make sure they get out with you. Leaving a child or adult in a vehicle is the most dangerous thing anyone of us could do. Think about it ..if it's hot out side..Lord imagine how hot is is in a vehicle sometime 5x more hotter then out side.....There is know where for the heat to go. I have seen this often in my years of nursing and we just lost a kid two days ago like this......Not Me ...but someone else. So I send prayers out to that family and to anyone elese who has lost there love one in this manner.
Yes ...it is easy to say it want happen to me and maybe you are right that it won't but we do know for a fact that it happens. I ask everyone today and every day..Just Be Alert ...watch your children and adults even more during these hot times...because we just never know.
God Bless You All & Enjoy the rest of your summer
